Climate

Every shoe leaves traces, even before you wear it.

However consciously we manufacture our products, shoe production has an impact on our planet, especially on the climate. That's why we've been tracking our greenhouse gas emissions since 2021. Because only what you know can you change.

In 2025, we reached a major milestone: all KEEN offices, garages, and locations we own and operate worldwide are now powered by 100% renewable electricity.

However, our biggest challenge in climate action lies in the supply chain. The raw materials, manufacturing, and transportation involved in every pair of shoes account for more than 97% of our total greenhouse gas footprint.

That's why we set ourselves the goal of reducing these emissions by 45% per 1,000 pairs of shoes by 2033, the year of our 30th anniversary.

KEENers from all areas of our company helped develop the roadmap to achieve this goal.

Shoes for many years. Not a footprint for eternity.

Shoes belong on your feet, not in the landfill. We've always believed that the most sustainable shoe is the one you can wear for as long as possible. That's why we develop products designed for durability, made from better materials, and that make a lasting difference. This is precisely what our "Consciously Made" approach is all about.

There is no single solution. But many small steps together can achieve a great deal. Our KEEN.FUSION construction bonds the upper and sole exceptionally permanently, entirely without the use of toxic adhesives or solvents. This innovation is now being used in more and more of our shoes. By 2025, it will be present in just over 10% of our models.

At the same time, we are continuously working to reduce our footprint. Our products have been PFAS-free since 2018, long before these chemicals came under industry scrutiny. These so-called "perpetual chemicals" do not break down in the environment or in the human body. The phase-out wasn't easy, but we implemented it consistently nonetheless. Since beginning this transition in 2014, we have reduced the use of intentionally added PFAS in our products and along our supply chain by an estimated 106,000 kg.

CIRCULATORY CAPACITY

Our fight against waste never ends.

Circularity means keeping shoes in use longer and avoiding waste. That's why we develop even more durable products, like our Seek and Roam trail running shoes with their exceptionally hard-wearing outsole construction. At the same time, we extend the lifespan of our shoes with our KEEN Care program, which helps with cleaning, maintaining, and repairing shoes.

We're also breaking new ground when it comes to waste. In 2025, we revamped RE.KEEN, our platform for giving KEEN shoes a second life, together with a new partner. The redesigned platform makes it even easier for our fans to wear their shoes longer and pass on models they no longer use. More adventure. Less strain on our planet.

Supply Chain

Most shoe brands don't manufacture their own shoes. We do.

What sets KEEN apart is not just what we make, but also how we make it. We handle part of our own production. This is exceptional in the footwear industry. It allows us to act faster, test new approaches, learn from them, and establish better practices throughout our supply chain.

The three factories we own in Thailand, the Dominican Republic, and the USA produce 27% of all KEEN products. In 2025, our US factory, KEEN American Built, moved to a larger site adjacent to our distribution center in Shepherdsville, Kentucky. This allows us to responsibly expand production in the USA while simultaneously reducing our carbon footprint—a move that was also covered by The New York Times. Simply by optimizing transportation routes, we expect to reduce our CO₂ emissions by approximately 2,800 tons per year.

The better we become, the more we can achieve.

We make shoes to make a difference. As a family-run business, we use our profits to help leave the world a better place than we found it.

In 2025, we provided $3.24 million in grant funding and product donations to 88 community partners worldwide. Together with the Conservation Alliance and Runners for Public Lands, we protected natural spaces, launched the Whyser POW Slip-On, which supports Protect Our Winters' climate action, and responded to natural disasters around the globe.

When devastating wildfires struck Los Angeles and much of Southern California, we donated $30,000 to local relief organizations and provided nearly 15,000 pairs of shoes. Additionally, a team of KEEN employees spent a week on-site to ensure the right shoes reached the people who needed them most.

People

We are more than just employees.

At KEEN, we're not just employees, we're KEENers. That's why each of us receives up to 40 hours of paid volunteer time every year to get involved in our local community. In 2025, this amounted to a total of 3,489 volunteer hours. This is precisely what makes working at KEEN so special for us: putting our values into action.
