KEEN Presents "Idemo!": Trail Running in Montenegro

Back to blog

“I believe that the mountains are just like us. They’re unpredictable. They are always changing depending on what’s happening around them. They have so much more than what you see on the surface. But you need to get closer to know more of them.”

This is one of the reflections shared in Idemo!, a new short film that captures our trail running journey through one of Europe's under-explored mountain regions: Montenegro’s Durmitor National Park. Check out the 5-minute film above.

Idemo! – which means “Let’s go” in Montenegrin – follows runners Mileshka Cortes Bernard (who also narrates the film) and Essaw Tekle as they navigate unfamiliar trails, cultures, and terrain. Wearing our Roam and Seek trail running shoes, they chase never-ending limestone views, run with the Balkan winds and wild dogs, and try to outrun the sunset each day for a little more time in this special place.

“You would just look to the left or the right, it didn’t matter which direction, and you would realize how lucky you were just being there,” Mileshka says.

Which is exactly why we chose Montenegro for our spring/summer '26 trail running shoot. We love the adventure of trail running – running farther to see new things. Gaining new perspectives and new friends, like "Big Stinky," the Balkan herding dog who ran with us in Zabljak and became part of our pack for the week. And we'll never forget our lunch picnic of Montenegrin street food (grilled chicken and french fries) perched 2,000 meters up near Bobotov Kuk.

"Being out there for hours and days reminds me of how beautiful and simple moments in life can be," Essaw says. "Everything is on hold when you’re in the middle of nowhere, surrounded by the beauty of nature."
