Learning to Walk in Heels

If you have been invited to a formal function and you are unused to walking in high heels, you may well be feeling a little anxious about how you manage to manoeuvre around in your shoes on the big night. You will find, however, that there are certain steps you can take in order to improve your progress.

To begin with, you will want to choose the right pair of heels. If you spend most of your time walking in fitflop and trainers, then the chances are good that no pair of stilettoes you try on will feel comfortable. In order to make life easier for yourself, simply opt for a shoe with a slightly chunkier heel, and plenty of padding under the ball of your foot.

In addition, you will want to practice walking in your new high heels for about a week before the function. Wear them around your house when you are performing ordinary tasks; this will help you to get used to them and will also go some of the way towards softening the straps and making the shoes more comfortable from that perspective.

Finally, you should make sure from the outset that you are walking correctly in your new high heels. This means stepping onto the balls of your feet, and engaging your stomach muscles in order to keep yourself stable on your shoes and prevent you from injuring your lower spine.

Wearing heels can be very difficult if you are not used to this kind of shoe. However, with the right pair and plenty of practice, you should find that moving around and balancing are not quite the impossible problems you imagined they might be..
